A while back, to get my wife out of her Pulsar into something more.. substantial, I handed her the keys to my - for lack of a better phrase - pride and joy, my 2001 Mitsubishi Magna sedan ( see Diamante ).
Over the years, I threw some serious dollars at it in terms of maintenance and modifications, and paint aside, its condition belies its 267,000km/165,000mi odometer reading.

After driving around said Pulsar for the last six months, and getting cabin fever in the process, I set about looking for its replacement. Given that the Magna had served us well with 90,000km/60,000 largely trouble-free miles in our ownership, chances were that something similar would be on my radar. After several months of looking, I decided upon a Magna wagon to compliment the sedan.

Enter the 2003 Magna Advance Series 2 wagon. Its no spring-chicken, mileage wise, at 216,000km/134,000mi, but came with a folder over 2 inches thick of receipts dating back to the previous owner's purchase in 2005 (the original owner was the state government), and paint aside (clearcoat issues and poor quality paint are common Mitsubishi gripes here) this was a tidy unit, stock aside from 17" mags and 30mm/1.2" lowered springs.

I've owned it for about a month and a half now, done some maintenance (rear wheel bearings, antenna, window motor and regulator, tyres, and a service) and some modifications to it (new stereo, centre console and fascia from a later model, painted window trims to match, and had the bonnet and front bar repainted) and as it sits, I am happy with the results so far, with much more do do.

The driven wheels may be only at one and/or the wrong end of the chassis and, for all intents and purposes, it is just a run of the mill Australian family vehicle that is a dime a dozen on the roads here - they both are ; but this is my Jalop, my tangible version of Oppo.

They're used in a few models around this time (95-03), EA/EC Galants and Legnums used a similar unit also.

Man that is one clean looking wagon. Too bad they never sold them here in the states. Is it AWD or FWD?

Thanks for the kind words mate, they only made the wagons in FWD unfortunately, unlike the sedans which were offered in AWD alongside FWD models between '03 and '05.
